# How Contractors Use Process States

## Process States are used to provide updates about how the work order is progressing

This article is for FMI Works users who have been given access to the Contractor Portal

### Overview

Process States are associated with a Work Order Status. They enable the capture of additional details about the progress of the work order.

Some common uses for Process States are:

- When the contractor arrives on site, the contractor can update the process state to let the FM team know work has commenced.
- When the contractor has completed the work order, the contractor can let the FM team know work has been completed by updating the process state.

### Selecting the Process State

The Process State drop down option is displayed on the Work Order.

Select *Update Job* to update the Process State.

Select from the Process State drop down and *Save.*
